Panels - Saturday July 8th, Noon to 4:00 PM
If you’re a fan of comic books and want to know the “real stories” behind the comics you’ve read and collected, check out one of the panels in the spacious 300 seat JCC auditorium! Here’s your chance to listen and ask questions to both Joe Rubinstein and Don McGregor, two of the comic book industry's top storytellers, as they cover all aspects of their journey through their years in th comic book industry.
Also, don't miss out on Karl Slominski & Jenna Wright as they discuss how to work together as a couple in producing best selling indy comics. Wrapping up the panel series is a round table discussion with local artist talent featuring Kevin Delgado, John Bruggman and Matt Flint as they share their experiences working as independent comic creators.

Noon - 12:45 PM: Spotlight on Joe Rubinstein
Join Joe as he shares his history as an inker and his time working with numerous artists & pencillers in the industry. Whether its basic rough layouts or finished art, the inker helps with the finished design of the comic book page, adding varying line weights to create mass, depth, textures and other effects to bring out the best intent of the artist’s pencil work. Sometimes an inker is even required to do additional drawing to make the art complete. Joe will share his experience in working with a variety artists over the years and how this has shaped his career.
1:00 PM - 1:45 PM: Joining Forces - Karl Slominski and Jenna Wright
Local Rochester artists Karl Slominski and Jenna Wright will offer their insight on partnering and producing independent comic books and how they created their best-selling book The Cult of Ikarus. Each will tell what it’s like to work together and how they approach a comic story from a male and female team perspective. They will also propvide a special sneak preview their new upcoming project, Lady Mayhem.
2:00 pM - 2:45 pM: Writing it Right with Don McGregor
A 50 year industry veteran, Don McGregor takes us on a journey as he shares his experiences as a writer, relating how telling a comics story visually requires more than a cool-looking image; it takes years of experience and a thorough understanding of the art form's visual vocabulary. Character dialogue and story development, the pacing of action and how written sound effects can enhance the story, and when they distract from it. Join Don in a rare appearance and bring your questions!
3:00 - 3:45: Gather 'round the Table - Kevin Delgado, John Bruggman, matt Flint
Wrapping up the ECF panel discussions, guest artists Kevin Delgado, John Bruggman and Matt Flint will share a discussion on their own comic book business journey and take questions from the audience, each sharing their own insight on the comic book industry past, present, and future.
